Mood Money is an Android app that records your spending and how you felt about it. This policy explains what the app collects, why, where it is kept, and what you can do about it. Questions or requests: contact@moodmoney.in.
The short version. Your bank messages and payment notifications are read on your phone. Their text is never sent anywhere — a problem report carries only the reason you pick and a short note you type. What syncs to your account, over an encrypted connection, are the details pulled out of them: the amount, payee, time, category and your mood, plus the account's last four digits and the balance the message reported. We use fixed rules, not machine learning. No ads, and we never sell your data.
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Phone number | To create your account and sign you in with a one-time code. |
| Transaction details — amount, money in or out, the merchant or payee name as your bank wrote it, category, date and time, the last four digits of the account and the balance when the bank message includes them, and how it was recorded (SMS, notification, statement import or typed in); and, only if you add them, your own name for a payment and a note of up to 200 characters, which are shown back to you and used for nothing else | To show your spending, sort it into categories, and total it by mood and by month. |
| Your mood tags and your answers to the weekly look-back | The point of the app: to show how feelings and spending relate. |
| Income and fixed costs you enter — income amount, how often you are paid, salary day, which payments you marked as income, and bills or EMIs you add | To separate money you chose to spend from money that was already committed, and to size nudges and budgets. |
| Time zone | So "today" and "this week" mean your day, not ours. |
| Notification language, state, the kinds of notification you want, and quiet hours, if you choose them | To write nudges in your language and mention festivals where you are, and to send only what you asked for, when you asked for it. Only what you pick — the app never reads your location. It may suggest a language from your phone's own language settings; that check stays on the phone, and nothing changes unless you accept. |
| Push notification token | To deliver nudges to this device. |
| Nudge history — which nudges were sent and whether you opened or dismissed them | To avoid repeating a nudge too soon, and to learn which ones help. |
| Transaction problem reports — the reason you pick and any note you type | To fix transactions the app read wrongly. The note box is always empty until you type in it, and asks you not to paste the bank message. |
| Feature usage — which screens you open and which features you use, when, and your app version. Never amounts, payees, message text or anything you type | To learn which parts of the app help people and which go unused. Kept in our own database and seen only by the team. You can turn this off in Settings → Privacy and your data → Share usage counts; from then on none are kept for your account. |
| Technical logs on our servers — time, request, error details and IP address | To keep the service secure and fix faults. |
The early-access form on our home page asks for your name and email address, and nothing else. We use them only to write to you about early access to the app: when there is a build to try, and when it is out. No newsletter, and we never share them or use them for anything else.
They are kept in our own database, apart from app accounts, and only the team can see them. We do not store your IP address with the request; like every request to our servers, it appears in our technical logs for up to 30 days. Sending the form again with the same email updates your name rather than adding a second entry.
We delete your request when you ask — email contact@moodmoney.in — and delete all of them once the app is publicly available.
Every permission is optional. Without them the app still works; you add transactions by hand. Before asking for either of the first two, the app explains what it will read and asks for your consent.
The app does not use your location, contacts, camera, microphone or photos. You can turn capture off, or revoke any permission in Android settings, at any time.
All of this runs on fixed rules. There is no machine learning, no profiling for advertising, and no automated decision about you that has legal or financial effect. We do not use your data for lending or credit scoring, do not share it with lenders, show no ads, and never sell your data.
Only these service providers, only what each needs to do its job for us, and never for their own purposes:
Some providers process data outside India. We may also disclose data where Indian law requires it. The app contains no analytics or advertising SDKs.
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can:
Mood Money is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger, and delete it if we learn we have.
When this policy changes we update this page and the date above. For a change that affects what we collect or how we share it, we will tell you in the app first.
